Deep Dive: How Low Can Dolphins Go?

Did you know dolphins are incredible divers? While they’re often seen splashing near the surface, dolphins can dive to impressive depths when they need to! On average, dolphins dive to about 10-150 feet (3-45 meters) when hunting for food, but some species can go much deeper.

The record for the deepest dive by a dolphin was set by a bottlenose dolphin, which reached a depth of 990 feet (300 meters)! Talk about a deep-sea adventure! Dolphins can hold their breath for up to 8-10 minutes, making them skilled explorers of the ocean’s depths.

So, next time you see a dolphin leaping joyfully above the waves, just imagine the underwater world they’re so perfectly equipped to navigate. Whether near the surface or way down in the deep blue, dolphins are truly masters of the ocean!
